Located in Hawassa, inside the compound formerly occupied by the Wabe Shebele hotel, the united Africa group (UAG) apartment project is an extension of the series of developments in the compound. The design was driven and heavily influenced by the site condition.

Around the periphery of the site there is a population of indigenous trees that dictated the initial block lay outing, the blocks were arranged so as to allow the lake breeze coming from lake Awasa. This allowed for the project to have the openness feel and also be developed in 4 individual phases. Because the building acts as 4 independent blocks, ease of structural application was also achieved. Building materiality intended to acquire the local character of woodiness and rich textures, protruding shades with solid wood sections and wooden plank claddings aims to achieve a eucalyptus like textures. The lower level area generously sets back from the pedestrian road and permits for an active and semi-shaded walkway which can create a robust commercial axis along the property’s boundary. Ground floor levels with duplex spaces are dedicated to commercial functions, while 1st- 4th floor is comprised of apartments with three different typologies.
