Inauguration of Halala Kella Luxury Resort

In an exciting development for the tourism industry, the Halala Kella Resort, located within the Koysha Cluster of Dawro zone, has been completed after 18 months of exhilarating journey. The resort, which is a DB Project under Elmi Olindo Contractors Plc, was designed by RAAS Architects in collaboration with local engineering firms.

In September 2022, RAAS Architects was assigned to design a Resort in Halala Kella, a DB Project under Elmi Olindo Contractors Plc. We are very proud to share that after an exhilarating journey of 18 months this beautiful resort, a tourism destination within the Koysha Cluster of Dawro zone has successfully been completed.

The architectural design from concept to final completion, coordination and supervision, was fully lead by RAAS Architects in collaboration with our local engineering firms. This bespoke project, specifically crafted and incorporating both indigenous and contemporary architectural styles and materials takes inspiration from the topography, climate, local peoples culture and history. The site is located on a man-made lake created by the Gibe III Hydropower plant and most importantly, within the amazing and historical defensive walls of King Halala.

We have so much to say about the architecture and philosophies around the design but today, we want to celebrate those involved in the process of this design-build project, as an example of a truly collaborative DB success story. Our in-house design charrettes, vibrant conversations with engineering, site engineers, artists and supply teams; sleepless nights exacerbated by looming deadlines; truly humbling experiences on and off-site, it is safe to say the team effort has finally delivered something quite unique and to high standards in a very short time. We are blessed with everlasting values that emanate from this extraordinary journey, the lessons learnt and most importantly strong friendships we built because at RAAS we care. We care for architecture, we care for our environment and we care for our communities!

We look forward to sharing more documentation and publications about this project in the near future. In the meantime, we invite you to please check out the recently published Ketema Journal, which features The Halala Kella Resort.
