Treehouse 4
Theme: Home – Ethiopia
This treehouse showcases how treehouses become our home in nature and the
connection this allows us to have with the outside world. Animals, plants and fungi all
make their homes in trees.
We experimented with different materials, colors, structures, and patterns of old weaving techniques in our design process. By using digital Building Information Modelling (BIM), we were able to create an environmentally sustainable solution. Our inspiration was Ethiopian weavings, and we created intricate patterns that were choreographed into a circular structure, which represents the essence of home in Ethiopia. This approach modernized traditional thread weaving, making it more contemporary and elevating it beyond its traditional craft status. Our goal was to revitalize the Kew Garden Tree House while creating a meaningful connection between design, culture, and the environment to recreate the sense of home.
